I bought this surge protector for a treadmill. According to the treadmill's manual, it recommends a single plug surge protector with lights to show that it is protected, and this fit the bill!

In practice: I think we all know that crazy storms have been sweeping the Midwest lately (May 2011)! Well, I'm in Missouri (not Joplin). The storms lately have played havoc with our electrical systems, but this handy little device has done its job perfectly! The treadmill runs perfectly still and I have faith that it will continue to!

Previous concerns: Before buying this product, I was worried that the lights and shape might interfere with the second plug in the outlet. DO NOT WORRY! It fits perfectly with room to spare. My other plug (top one) is fully accessible.

FYI: The Grounded light is red and the Protected light is green, at least on mine. I would tend to associate red with something BAD, but knowing what it means on this is all I really need. Just something I noticed.

I ordered another one of these, and it was NOT what I wanted. I used the product link from my history, and even found this review I had written to be sure. The new one was larger and DID block the other outlet. I don't know if I was just lucky once, or which design is older, but this new one is darker gray, and big enough to be a pain. I had to switch some things around to plug it all in. First purchase was 5 stars, second one is 3 stars. It works, but it is in the way! This new one is the only thing in my outlet. I am NOT satisfied with it, but the price of the item means it's not worth my trouble to return. Boo (hiss).

I noticed that some friends had their laptops protected by the Tripp Lite SPIKECUBE so I went onto Amazon for more information. The price (<$10 delivered) and the reviews sold me. I bought three of these surge protectors. I've used Tripp Lite before. I have one of their Home Theater power centers, which I love, so I thought it only fitting to purchase this product. It's an inexpensive way to get protection for valuable computer/electronics equipment.

It's perfect for travelers because it provides protection for your laptop while on the road, and it's small enough to fit in your laptop case, or luggage. You cannot go wrong.

I was looking for a single outlet surge suppressor for a new treadmill. This one is just what I wanted. Grounded (3-prong), has a light to indicate that the suppression is still active, fairly unobtrusive. Tripp-lite is a quality name and I am happy with this product.

The unit is well made and the long cord adds to its flexibility. The cord is actually 35" long.
It powered my Dell Studio Laptop with Earthmate GPS unit flawlessly on a recent 1000 mile trip. It didn't get overly warm and it is quiet.
The laptop is rated at 75 watts.
On/off button means you don't have to unplug when you stop.
With this unit you only need an AC charger for your cell phone.

I am very happy with this unit.

It is 100 W 0.8 A for 5 minutes only, all the rest of the time is 80W 0.65 A. Consider this when buying it.
It is made by a company called XANTREX in china for DURACELL.
On the picture is looking better than actual.

I bought this unit because it has a cord on the 12 volt end so that it can be plugged into our tightly quartered cigarette lighter outlet. It also meets my power needs. Be aware, this is really only an 80 watt unit that handles 100 watts for no more than a couple of minutes. At 80 watts it will draw about 6 to 7 amps from the lighter, or accessory outlet so be sure the outlet can handle it. Our new car has three such outlets but only the lighter outlet is really up to the task (15 amps or about 15A * 14V = 210 watts). The others are fine for devices that draw only a little power like a GPS, cell phone, MP3 player, etc.

The unit has a small fan inside that comes on when the electronics inside get too warm. Be sure not to block the vent slots in the case, especially the circular ones on the bottom since this is the only intake for the fan. I don't find the fan too loud, being just barely perceptible when it comes on while I'm driving. Mine feels solid, well made, is simple to use and does what it's suppose to.

Beware, this does not work with ODBII Subarus or Suzukis, tested on a 2003 WRX STI and a 2006 Suzuki Vitara - Failed to connect to ECU.

Also the cd that came with it has wear scratches indicating that it was previously used.

Like serveral gearheads that like OBDII analysis tools for their cars, I saw the advertisements for 'droids "Torque" app that provides the metrics of your cars computer analysis. It allows you to see everything a professional mechanic can see with his $3,xxx.xx Snap On scanning tools at the shops. No longer do you have to take your car in to a professional mechanic/shop when you get a check engine/service engine soon light. You plug in your OBDII adaptor to the port and then fire up 'droids "Torque" app and viola! You can see when the 'fault' the cars computer is relaying. With that knowledge, *you* can decide if it's a simple fix or a major fix. Plus, knowing what the really is, you can go to the shop and know if the mechanic is 'embellishing' the issue. Most mechanics are honest but some shops really do have some 'issues' and tell the mechanically clueless they need all kinds of stuff they don't. My mother is a perfect example...Makes me so mad! You can also 'clear' the code with "Torque" to make the check engine light go off after you've fixed the issue.

The critical component in all this is the OBDII adaptor. You have to have someway to link your 'droid "Torque" app to the cars computer. This adaptor listed here is the one most 'hits' on Google provided when I was looking for an OBDII adaptor. They were inexpensive and my initial research seemed to indicate users/buyers were happy with the product. I ordered one from Ebay but didn't realize it was being shipped from China. I'm an impatient sort so I also bought one from Amazon and had it expedited. It arrived right away and I eagerly unpacked it and installed it. I fired up my 'droid "Torque" app and followed the instructions on "pairing it"(Identifying it to the bluetooth function in my 'droid X). Right off the bat, the "Torque" app threw up a dialog box that said this adaptor was known to be a cheap and unreliable clone(how the heck can it tell ? Lol) and then it started the communications. The lights on the device indicated activity and viola! it linked. But after 5 seconds it dropped.
I grimaced and then restarted the process. Same dropped communications every time I started the application. This was on my '96 Z28. Deciding it might be just my Z28, I tried it on my daughters 2004 Kia Spectre. Same dropped communications. I tried it on my wifes 2002 Dodge Caravan. Same dropped communications.

I went into the house and went on the internet and googled to see if others had ran into this 'dropped communications' issue. Well, there it was. It looks like these cheap adaptors work out perfect about 50% of the time and fail like mine equally at 50%. I told myself, "Well, at least it didn't cost too much and, hey.. you have the one coming from China too. It might work!". Well, it arrived and its just as bad as the first one. It's not even worth returning to Amazon for a refund. lol...

Maybe you'll be lucky and get a good one. I ended up just buying the PLX Kiwi OBDII adaptor. It's much more expense at around $99 but it's as solid as a rock and works perfect every time.

I got it just as I was done rebuilding the top end of my 04 Dodge Ram. It's nice to not have to run to the local autozone to get a code read. I'm a shade tree mechanic, and I have more and more friends who are running OBDII. This worked great with Torque. There is a pin to connect. 1234.

Was having trouble with my Ford F250 battery being dead after it was left sitting for a couple months. There is some slight computer draw or the like in the system that eventually runs it down. This is just whats needed to keep the battery topped off. The review is simply.... It works or did for a while! Well after a couple months it WASN'T working. Took it apart and found out a soldered wire had come apart. So I resoldered it and wallah it's been working since. So if your stops working take it apart...and see if everything is hooked up before you trash it. If you find nothing to fix ...get out the hammer and beat the crap out of it...!!
