What Is Dog Town?
3 D Automotive and Diane Dixon -The Lady Shop Owner Who Is Taking The SCARE Out of Auto Care have unleashed a FREE basic 3K service with oil and filter change in exchange for a $25.00 donation to our local Humane Society.
Imagine "Dog Town"a concept where the whole town would be an animal shelter.  Instead of one building that houses animals in small runs or cages, each dog or cat would live in a home with people.

“Dog Town” would be a place to pet or adopt a dog and raise your “feel good levels”. The University of Missouri-Columbia researchers preliminary results indicate that levels of serotonin, a hormone in humans that helps fight depression, rise dramatically after interaction with animals, specifically dogs.” Said Rebecca Johnson, MU professor of nursing and veterinary medicine. The hormone serotonin is critical in the psychological well being of an individual. In addition, we have discovered that there is no substitute for the real thing.

The homes at “Dog Town” would either be doublewide mobile homes or regular houses. All would be donated by various companies and would bear that company’s name. It would be an up-scale development with large lots, perhaps following the layout of a State Park. It would also include an office, a spay/neuter clinic and vet's office, supplies store, gift store and much more.  The idea would be that it would grow into a tourist attraction, thus bringing in more revenue for the animals.

The positive aspects behind this kind of development are that the unwanted dogs and cats would live in homes that would be owned by the Humane Society and rented out to people, perhaps "seniors" or another needy group.  These "renters" would care for the dogs or cats; do the poop scooping, training, feeding and potty training for a reduced rent.  When animals were adopted out, they would be very used to living in a home and would be potty trained.  This arrangement would also eliminate the need for many volunteers, a scarce commodity these days.

The homes themselves would be somewhat different.  They would be placed "back-to-front" on their lots with their back yards where they front yards should be and vice versa. This would allow people to walk around the paved streets in this gated community and see the dogs when open for adoptions.

The important first step in making “Dog Town” a reality is to raise $300,000 to purchase 50 acres.
